Top Plastic Surgery & Minimally-Invasive Procedures?

Top Plastic Surgery & Minimally-Invasive Procedures?

Wondering which plastic surgery and minimally invasive procedures are most prevalent in US society today? After catching up with one of Malibu’s best plastic surgeons we got the inside view on this ever-growing industry.

Plastic surgery is increasingly more common in today’s society. Let’s look back at 2017 and see what the trends were!

First, it’s important to distinguish between plastic surgery and minimally invasive procedures.

Simply put, procedures that do not require large amounts of tissue trauma, bruising, or stitches and such can generally be considered minimally invasive. While there are always exceptions, this is a general rule of thumb.

Procedures like breast augmentation or reconstruction, nose jobs, and tummy tucks fall squarely in plastic surgery and require additional time, patience, and nutrients to recover from surgery.

So what are the trends?

From 2017, we see minimally invasive cosmetic procedures grow at a slightly higher rate than surgical procedures. And in general, the top surgical procedures focus on the body, while the top minimally invasive procedures focused on the face.

Here is the data collected from the American Plastic Surgery Society:

Total of 1.8 million cosmetic plastic surgery procedures performed in 2017. The top 5 were:

  1. Breast augmentation (300,378 procedures, up 3% from 2016)

  2. Liposuction (246,354 procedures, up 5% from 2016)

  3. Nose reshaping (218,924 procedures, down 2% from 2016)

  4. Eyelid surgery (209,571 procedures, approximately the same as 2016)

  5. Tummy tuck (129,753 procedures, up 2% from 2016)

Total 15.7 million cosmetic minimally invasive procedures performed in 2017. The top 5 are:

  1. Botox Injection (7.23 million procedures, up 2% from 2016)

  2. Soft Tissue Fillers (2.69 million procedures, up 3% from 2016)

  3. Chemical Peel (1.37 million procedures, up 1% since 2016)

  4. Laser hair removal (1.1 million procedures, down 2% from 2016)

  5. Microdermabrasion (740,287 procedures, down 4% from 2016)

While the recovery times for the above procedures vary, what is consistent amongst all of them is the patient’s ability to enhance recovery with proper nutrition, preparation, exercise, and some family help.

Just remember you are beautiful and perfect the way you are, but if elective procedures are something you are interested in, make sure you do your research and get to know your physician well.

Great communication leads to much better results!
